Set into the mountain and surrounded by the vegetation of the dry inter-Andean valleys, Refugio is a creative space in dialogue with nature and memory. Built with materials recycled from Sergio Vega's old family home, it keeps its ajayu —the soul, in Aymara— giving its history new meaning in a creative ecosystem that hosts creative residencies, exchange projects and training activities in design and other arts.
More than a workshop, Refugio is a reflection on creative practice. While design looks “outward”, made for others, art is an introspective journey, a search inward. This space brings both dynamics together as complementary parts of the creative process, where making is also thinking, transforming and inhabiting the world.
